Again & again: Ballbands

One of my all-time favorite kitchen cloths has got to be the beloved Ballband cloth. I just love the colors, the texture and the over all appeal of this cloth. Perhaps it is simply that it looks so complicated and it is so easy to knit. Especially in the eyes of a non-knitter. In a way it is a well kept secret in the knitters bag of tricks. Here are my latest Ballband projects. I am knitting several of these as gifts for 20 something girls. One set as a birthday gift and a set of them for a wedding shower gift. The top photo below is simply my stash of cloths to choose from when the need for gift-giving arises.

It is not that I particularly enjoy knitting these because the color changes take a bit of extra time... especially if I use a wide variety of colors. But I can easily overlook that when I can enjoy the finished projects. I don't believe that I have ever knit the same color way twice. This truly is one of my favorite scrap-busting projects, although weaving in thirty or so ends is also time-consuming, it is well worth it.

What are your favorite "dishcloth recipes"? Why not post them to my flicker group? The link can be found on the lower left of this page.

I love the brown/reds/whites in that top ballband!

The ballband is one of my favorites too. I just discovered the nine-patch mitered square dishcloth and it is a great one too. Lots of ends to weave in though.

You're flickr pictures are beautiful.

As always your site is just lovely and inspiring with those beautiful ballbands. Yours remind me of all my favorite icecream flavors; mint chocolate chip, neopolitan, and sherbets, too. (food person here;)
I've been working on ballbands, too, but not cutting yarns..maybe someday.
Blessings!

Oh CeElle, I come here most days just to get my daily dose of color! I don't knit, but I certainly do admire the genius of what you create!

I love these too!
Your post title reminded me of Again & Again by The Bird and the Bee - do you ever listen to them?

Good grief - how long does it take you to do one ballband cloth? I'm slow, but getting faster. You must just peel right through them . . . colors are glorious!

A knitter after my own heart! Happy to see others hooked on ballbands! That's some stack you got there! I never seem to be able to stock up like you do. Mine seem to go out faster than I can knit them! I just sent a few out labeled with your adorable tags!

Please tell me your secret for those fabulous color combos.....

You are definitely not alone in your love of the ball-band. It's one of my favorites, and I always have one on the needles. The color combos are endless, and yours are always fabulous.

I just finished my second ballband. It's the opposite colors as the first one I made, in blues, greens and yellow! I can't wait to make some more! I see you were creative and made the bricks different widths and colors! Good for you! I saw your pictures on the Monthly KAL group website. You do a really good job!
